Georgia Unsecured Or Improperly Loaded Truck Accidents

Even in the best circumstances, an accident with a big truck can have severe and debilitating consequences. Because big delivery trucks are large and can reach high speeds, the results of an accident involving a truck can be particularly serious. What makes an accident with a truck even more dangerous is the cargo they carry. Depending on who owns or operates the truck or who has hired the truck to transport cargo, the details about what they are hauling can vary dramatically. Depending on the type, size, and weight of these vehicles, a fully loaded big truck can weigh almost 100,000 pounds. If a passenger vehicle is involved in an accident with a truck that heavy, the results could be devastating or even fatal. When trucks are transporting cargo, the likelihood and effects of the accident increase if the vehicle is not loaded properly. This article will discuss the circumstances…

Size Difference the Primary Hazard in Car vs. Truck Accident

Occupants of passenger vehicles in Georgia will always be at an increased risk when they share the roadways with big rigs. The sheer size difference increases the risk of catastrophic injuries or fatalities in any truck accident. Road safety is the shared responsibility of operators of all modes of transport, including those on two-wheels like cyclists and motorcycle riders. Safety authorities say drivers of smaller vehicles should consider the unique challenges with which large truck operators must deal. The fact that big rigs could be up to 30 times the size of passenger vehicles makes it more challenging for a driver to maneuver large trucks and buses. Acceleration and braking are particularly dangerous because these large vehicles are slow to accelerate when going uphill and quick to gain speed when they go downhill. The taller the vehicle, the higher its center of gravity, which increases the risk of rolling over. For this…

Driver Charged After Truck Accident

Traffic accidents are, unfortunately, unavoidable on major roadways like highways or interstates. These accidents can range from minor fender-benders with no injuries to multiple-car pileups that result in severe injuries or deaths. A truck accident is especially likely to result in injury or death because of the size of the vehicle involved. Several months ago, one such accident occurred in Georgia, and one of the drivers who was seriously injured in the crash recently passed away. As a result, charges have been filed against the truck driver involved. The original crash occurred in November of last year and involved 11 vehicles, including a tractor-trailer. Multiple people were injured in the crash, but only one has died as a result of those injuries. It was ultimately determined that the truck driver was responsible for the crash, and warrants have been issued for his arrest. Authorities are filing multiple charges against the driver of the…

1 Killed and 1 Injured in Truck Accident

Georgia drivers know that driving next to a semi-truck can be unnerving. They are easily the largest vehicles on the road, and they have notoriously large blind spots. Therefore, the drivers of these trucks have to be even more vigilant about following driving laws. Unfortunately, not all truck drivers adhere to these laws, and the result is too often a fatal truck accident. On the evening of Sept. 27, Georgia State Patrol responded to a crash involving a semi-truck and a car. The car held two passengers, the driver, and a child. The driver was killed in the crash, and the child was reportedly taken to Archbold Medical Center. Reports also say that the child was in critical condition. The crash occurred on Maddox Road and State Route 188. Authorities say that the driver of the semi-truck failed to yield upon exiting a private driveway. The truck crashed into the…

Fatalities stemming from these accidents increased by 4 percent over the previous year, with 3,781 deaths in total, reportedly. Among the 1,688 vehicles involved in fatal crashes in Georgia during that same year, 149 of them were large trucks or about 9 percent. Research reveals that 81 percent of fatal accidents involving semi-trucks include multiple vehicles, whereas 58 percent of fatal crashes involving no semi-trucks are multiple-vehicle accidents. Researchers say that, with regard to fatal collisions in 2012 involving a semi-truck, at least one of the involved vehicles was attempting to negotiate a curve in 12 percent of them. In 9 percent of these wrecks, both vehicles were making a turn, and neither vehicle was attempting a turn in almost half of them. According to statistics, almost…

Four softball players from North Central Texas College lost their lives when the team bus was hit by an 18-wheeler in Oklahoma on Sept. 26. The crash happened late in the evening approximately 60 miles north of the Gainesville campus on Interstate-35. Three of the women reportedly died at the scene, and a fourth later succumbed to her injuries in a Sulphur, Oklahoma, hospital. Two other players remained in Norman Regional Hospital the following day, one in critical condition, while the coach and nine other players were treated and released.
