What makes commercial trucks so dangerous?

Commercial vehicles pose a very serious threat to passenger cars traveling alongside them. Not only are they larger and heavier than passenger vehicles, they can travel just as fast as everyone else. Certainly these factors make commercial vehicles a danger, but there are several other factors that should be considered when making the decision to drive alongside them. By definition, a commercial vehicle is any vehicle used for carrying people or goods for a fee. Yes, this may include tractor trailer semi-trucks, but it also includes dump trucks, tanker trucks and delivery vehicles. Each one of these vehicles is dangerous in their own way. However, the level of risk these trucks pose to other drivers may be specific to their body type and contents. The run of the mill semi-truck, also known as a tractor-trailer, is one of the most commonly seen commercial vehicles on the highway. These trucks are mainly dangerous…

Highway workers: beware of drunk drivers

A good portion of our nation's infrastructure relies heavily on the long hours spent by highway workers repairing and maintaining our roadways. Here in Georgia, with our many busy highways, much of this maintenance and repair must be done during the late evening and early morning hours. While these hours are typically quiet on the highway, late night bar patrons and other partygoers may make up a good portion of the traffic. Ideally, each late-night commute is made by a completely sober and wide-awake driver. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. And, many vehicles speeding past road workers may actually be driven by a drunk driver. According to the CDC, roughly one-third of all traffic-related fatalities in the U.S. in 2014 were caused by drunk drivers. That is almost 10,000 people that lost their lives in alcohol-related car accidents. While it may not be known how many of those fatalities were…

Study supports attitude against distracted teen drivers

Many times it is a teen driver's inexperience that gains the most notoriety when they are involved in a car accident. Unfortunately, it is not only inexperience that puts them at a greater risk for accidents but also their increasingly common use of cell phones while at the wheel. According to a recent report released by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, the majority of automobile accidents involving teen drivers also involve some other type of distraction. AAA has released a report that supports the idea that inexperienced teen drivers are too easily distracted by cell phones. The same study also shows that a great number of teen driver-related traffic fatalities occur during the summer months. The three-month stretch spanning from Memorial Day to Labor Day have been coined by the AAA as the "100 deadliest days." During the summer months and throughout the year, AAA has found that both…

Get Help After a Defective Auto Part Causes Injury

Most of us probably do not realize that many automobile recalls are made only after a concern becomes a problem. While recalls likely help save millions of lives every year, they may have started out by costing one. It can be extremely beneficial for individuals and loved ones that have experienced injury or loss due to a defective auto part or vehicle issue to seek the immediate help of an experienced personal injury attorney.
