Car Accident Kills Woman Who Exited Her Vehicle on the Interstate

When drivers are involved in an accident one of their first instincts may be to exit the vehicle and survey the damage or get away from the vehicle. A car accident that occurred on I-75 in Georgia underscores that this reaction can have tragic results. In light of the tragic accident, authorities have attempted to emphasize the importance of staying inside of the vehicle after an accident so long as it remains safe to do so. The initial accident that began the deadly chain of events involved only two vehicles. A car rear-ended a pickup truck, with the car then facing the wrong way on the interstate. The truck did not stop, but the driver later contacted authorities to say that he kept driving because there did not seem to be any major damage to his vehicle. However, the car facing the wrong way on the interstate was struck by another vehicle and…

Car Accident Results in Severe Injuries for 7 Year-Old Girl

It is always tragic when a person suffers a serious injury in an accident, even more so when that person is a child. One such car accident occurred earlier this month and resulted in what many parents may consider being one of their worst nightmares.  This crash is the reason why a 7-year-old girl is currently a patient at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Authorities say that this accident occurred on a Saturday afternoon in Newnan around 5 p.m. The little girl was seated behind her mother in the car. Reports say that a minivan crashed into their vehicle as the mother was attempting to turn left onto another street. When Georgia State Patrol arrived on the scene, the child was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Upon arriving at the hospital, it was revealed that the girl had suffered damage to her spinal cord, a collapsed lung, and brain swelling. Doctors have told…

When Should I See My Doctor After a Car Accident?

It may not seem too bad compared to a serious auto collision, but a minor crash is stressful. After a fender-bender, you need to spend several days dealing with the other driver, your insurance company, and repair shops. The last thing you and other Georgia residents may be thinking of after a minor crash is getting checked out by a doctor. However, the week following an accident is the exact time frame you should be paying attention to how your body feels. You might have walked away from the fender-bender without a scratch, but you could be feeling sore as early as the next day. Whiplash is a common injury suffered by countless people after minor collisions, especially rear-end crashes. This type of injury occurs when your head has been thrown back and forth by the impact. Often, you will not feel the effects of whiplash immediately, but you will begin to…

Car Accident Causes the Death of One Passenger

Most Georgia families know that coping with the death of a loved one can be difficult. Too often, a car accident is the cause of a family's grief. A single, poor decision can forever change the lives of individuals as well as entire families. One such accident occurred in Milledgeville, Georgia. A head-on collision between a sedan and a pickup truck resulted in the injury of three individuals. The two drivers were injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The third individual, a passenger in the sedan, suffered fatal injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Macon where he died. The accident occurred when the driver of the sedan refused to stop when a trooper attempted to pull him over. According to authorities, the trooper was attempting to pull the car over for a seat belt violation. The driver of the car turned onto another road and collided with the truck…

Speeding Contributes to Collision Between a Truck and a Tractor

Georgia residents living in rural areas have probably been caught behind individuals driving farm equipment, like tractors, on the roads. These vehicles only travel between 18 and 25 mph, and other drivers can sometimes become frustrated with the slow pace. This often results in drivers speeding around the slower-moving farm equipment. Unfortunately, drivers do not always wait for a safe time to pass these vehicles, and the results can be disastrous. This was the case in Madison County where a truck crashed into a slow-moving tractor. A witness to the crash, the driver of a second tractor, reported that the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the first tractor. The tractor was described as being torn in half as a result of the crash. The driver of the tractor was pinned underneath the front half of the machine. Witnesses say that the pinned man was making…

Reckless Driving Causes 3 to be Sent to the Hospital

Most drivers, especially young drivers, have felt the temptation to speed along a stretch of highway. Unfortunately, some have given in to this temptation with tragic results. Such was the case on Sept. 23 when the Georgia State Patrol responded to a car accident on Highway 16, which they suspect may have been caused by reckless driving and speeding. The crash involved two cars and three injured individuals. One car traveling eastbound is said to have struck another car whose driver was attempting to pull onto the highway. Both the driver and passenger of the first car were transported by helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center, and the driver of the second car was taken to Piedmont Newnan via ground ambulance. Witnesses to the collision informed the police that they saw the first car passing others over a double yellow line. They also said that the car was traveling at speeds exceeding 80 mph.…

Child Killed in 4-Vehicle Car Accident

On the evening of September 12, police in Henry County, Georgia, responded to a crash involving four cars on I-75 South. Authorities state that the car accident occurred when a truck struck the rear of another car. The two vehicles then continued forward to hit two more cars. Most of the individuals involved in the crash were able to walk away without any serious injury. However, the accident did, unfortunately, result in one death. A two-year-old girl died due to injuries that she sustained during the crash. Police have confirmed that the child was properly restrained in her car seat. The driver responsible for the initial crash fled the scene on foot with his passenger. The two were later found and arrested. After his arrest, it was discovered that the driver of the truck was driving without a valid license. In addition to being charged with vehicular homicide, the driver is being…

Georgia car accident takes the life of a mother of 5

Recently, the lives of five children were changed forever. Their mother was killed in a car accident on Georgia Interstate 85 South. The crash was caused by a man pulling in front of a semi-truck and forcing it to stop suddenly in the middle of the road. The driver believed to have been at fault reportedly pulled in front of the semi-truck after a rock, which he believed came from the back of the truck, cracked his windshield. After pulling in front of the truck he proceeded to stop his vehicle while still on the interstate. This forced the truck to stop as well. Unfortunately, the victim did not have enough time to react and her car slammed into the back of the tractor-trailer. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Georgia State Patrol arrested the driver of the front-most vehicle. He is being held in a county jail…

Serious Car Accident Injures Multiple People

An accident near the University of North Georgia has caused several injuries, according to local law enforcement. Georgia State Patrol responded to a car accident involving some nine vehicles on the afternoon of Aug. 14. So far, no charges have been filed against anyone involved in the crash. According to the police report, the driver of a cargo van was reportedly the catalyst for the crash. Details about the accident have not yet been fully reported, but it has been confirmed that nine vehicles were ultimately involved in the accident. The van ended up crashing into a restaurant around 1:30 p.m. Two people inside the restaurant were treated for minor injuries, but a city worker was also injured while trying to get out of the way of the van, and several other people were taken to local hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The condition of the driver is unknown at…

Georgia Student Killed in Tragic Car Accident

State police are still in the process of investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a college student during the week of July 29. Georgia authorities say the single-car accident that killed the young woman may have been the result of drunk driving. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash has been subsequently charged. The details of the accident are not widely known at this time, but it has been confirmed that at least two people were in the car at the time of the accident. It appears the driver of the vehicle, who was a friend of the victim, may have been speeding when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed. While the force of the impact killed the victim, the current status of the driver is unknown. Police have reason to believe the driver had been drinking at the time of the accident. She…
