Reckless Driving Causes 3 to be Sent to the Hospital

Most drivers, especially young drivers, have felt the temptation to speed along a stretch of highway. Unfortunately, some have given in to this temptation with tragic results. Such was the case on Sept. 23 when the Georgia State Patrol responded to a car accident on Highway 16, which they suspect may have been caused by reckless driving and speeding. The crash involved two cars and three injured individuals. One car traveling eastbound is said to have struck another car whose driver was attempting to pull onto the highway. Both the driver and passenger of the first car were transported by helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center, and the driver of the second car was taken to Piedmont Newnan via ground ambulance. Witnesses to the collision informed the police that they saw the first car passing others over a double yellow line. They also said that the car was traveling at speeds exceeding 80 mph.…

Child Killed in 4-Vehicle Car Accident

On the evening of September 12, police in Henry County, Georgia, responded to a crash involving four cars on I-75 South. Authorities state that the car accident occurred when a truck struck the rear of another car. The two vehicles then continued forward to hit two more cars. Most of the individuals involved in the crash were able to walk away without any serious injury. However, the accident did, unfortunately, result in one death. A two-year-old girl died due to injuries that she sustained during the crash. Police have confirmed that the child was properly restrained in her car seat. The driver responsible for the initial crash fled the scene on foot with his passenger. The two were later found and arrested. After his arrest, it was discovered that the driver of the truck was driving without a valid license. In addition to being charged with vehicular homicide, the driver is being…

Georgia car accident takes the life of a mother of 5

Recently, the lives of five children were changed forever. Their mother was killed in a car accident on Georgia Interstate 85 South. The crash was caused by a man pulling in front of a semi-truck and forcing it to stop suddenly in the middle of the road. The driver believed to have been at fault reportedly pulled in front of the semi-truck after a rock, which he believed came from the back of the truck, cracked his windshield. After pulling in front of the truck he proceeded to stop his vehicle while still on the interstate. This forced the truck to stop as well. Unfortunately, the victim did not have enough time to react and her car slammed into the back of the tractor-trailer. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Georgia State Patrol arrested the driver of the front-most vehicle. He is being held in a county jail…

1 Dead in Georgia Car Accident

One person is dead and three others were injured following a serious crash on I-75. Georgia State Patrol has confirmed that the car accident, which involved two passenger vehicles, led to the death of one unidentified individual. So far, they have not filed charges against the driver involved in the accident. The accident report is not complete as police are still investigating, but it has been confirmed that the driver of a pickup truck with four occupants had pulled over onto the left shoulder HOV lane in order to change a tire. At this point, a second vehicle crashed into the stopped vehicle, striking one of the people attempting the tire change. That individual was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving medical personnel. The other three occupants of the pickup truck were also injured, though the severity of their injuries was not reported. They were taken by ambulance to…

The van ended up crashing into a restaurant around 1:30 p.m. Two people inside the restaurant were treated for minor injuries, but a city worker was also injured while trying to get out of the way of the van, and several other people were taken to local hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Georgia Student Killed in Tragic Car Accident

State police are still in the process of investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a college student during the week of July 29. Georgia authorities say the single-car accident that killed the young woman may have been the result of drunk driving. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash has been subsequently charged. The details of the accident are not widely known at this time, but it has been confirmed that at least two people were in the car at the time of the accident. It appears the driver of the vehicle, who was a friend of the victim, may have been speeding when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed. While the force of the impact killed the victim, the current status of the driver is unknown. Police have reason to believe the driver had been drinking at the time of the accident. She…

GHSA Calls State’s New Distracted Driving Law a “Game Changer”

There is no disputing just how much of a scourge distracted driving has become on U.S. roads and highways. Indeed, numbers from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveal that distraction was behind 3,179 crash-related fatalities in 2014 alone and that this dangerous practice actually triples the risk of an accident. While states have taken action to address this issue, with 44 banning texting while driving and a smaller number banning hands-free devices, it's clear that more needs to be done. Interestingly enough, Washington, the first state to implement a texting ban ten years ago, recently saw a new distracted driving law take effect, one that the Governors Highway Safety Association indicated "has the potential to be a game-changer and serve as a model for other states." What does Washington's new distracted driving law do exactly? The new law prohibits non-electronic distractions, such as grooming, eating, having a pet on…

Georgia Ranks Among the Best States for Teen Drivers

When a teen secures their driver's license, parents may feel some relief as they are suddenly off the hook for trips to and from school, work, extracurriculars, and other social engagements. However, this relief may prove short-lived, as they suddenly find themselves having to worry about their child's safety out on the roads and highways. Unfortunately, parents are right to be concerned. Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveal that young people between the ages of 16 to 19 present the highest crash risk of any age group. More significantly, motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death among this demographic. Interestingly enough, the financial website WalletHub recently released a study ranking the best -- and worst -- states for teen drivers. Here, researchers examined 21 key metrics relating to safety, economic environment, and driving laws using both federal and state data. This, in turn, enabled them…

Tips to Strengthen your Personal Injury Case After a Crash

It is certainly not pleasant to think about, but there are many ways to suffer an injury in a car crash. When your thoughts clear a bit, remember that you will be seeking compensation for any injuries you might have, and the more help you can give to the personal injury attorney you engage, the stronger your case will be. Record Details You must report the accident to the police. While you wait for them to arrive, write down information about how the accident happened. Include details about the crash site, noting the names on street signs or highway signs and other pertinent descriptors. Make notes about the weather conditions and…

Why Did One State Make it Easier to Text While Driving?

When it comes to distracted driving, the numbers tell the story. Indeed, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has determined that 391,000 people were injured by distracted driving while another 3,477 lost their lives to this dangerous conduct in 2015 alone. As if this wasn't discouraging enough, consider also that the NHTSA has found that as many as 660,000 motorists are on their phones at any given time during daylight hours, meaning the risk of being involved in a distracted driving crash is disturbingly high. Unfortunately, this is far from a new phenomenon, as distracted driving accidents caused by cell phones -- particularly texting -- have been taking an astounding toll on our roads and highways for years. In fact, 46 states have now banned all drivers from texting while driving, including Georgia, in an attempt to address this epidemic. Some states are actually poised to take things even further,…
