Car Versus Motorcycle Accident Results in Biker’s Death

A crash between a car and a motorcycle can be devastating for all of the people involved in the accident. If the people involved are lucky then the accident only results in minor injuries, but it may be more likely in this type of scenario for serious or fatal injuries to occur. Earlier this month Georgia authorities responded to a motorcycle accident that ultimately caused the death of one individual. The accident occurred on Sunday, May 6 around 1 p.m. between a car and a motorcycle. The car was traveling eastbound when it crossed the center line and struck the westbound bike. It is unknown why the car breached the centerline, and the crash is still under investigation. Unfortunately, the 74-year-old motorcyclist was fatally injured in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities may file charges against the 27-year-old driver of the car, pending the results of their…

Charges Expected After Motorcycle Accident

Most drivers, at some point, have experienced the feeling of being temporarily blinded by another vehicle's headlights or by the glare of light reflecting off of another surface. Occasionally, drivers swerve or suddenly slow down when their sense of sight is suddenly impaired, but often drivers are able to maintain control of their vehicles. Sometimes, however, other vehicles become involved and a crash occurs. The Georgia State Patrol responded to reports of a motorcycle accident earlier this month caused by similar circumstances. On the evening of Sunday, April 1, the driver of a car was caught unawares by a glare. The driver reacted to it, and a motorcyclist crashed into the larger vehicle. A passenger was riding on the back of the motorcycle, and she was thrown from the vehicle. She was caught between the two vehicles and then dragged by a third. Unfortunately, the motorcycle passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. …

Woman Could be Charged After Motorcycle Accident

As the weather begins to warm up, motorcyclists across the country are hitting the road. This also means that other drivers, as well as the cyclists, must be mindful of their surroundings. Unfortunately, a lack of attention recently contributed to a motorcycle accident in Georgia that resulted in one death. The accident occurred on I-75 and involved two vehicles, a motorcycle, and a small four-door vehicle. Upon exiting the interstate, the driver of the car continued across the highway and struck a southwest-bound motorcycle. It was determined that the vehicle driver was attempting to re-enter the interstate. The motorcyclist was struck by the front driver's side door of the car. Sadly, the motorcyclist died as a result of his injuries. Authorities are still investigating other possible causes of the crash. The driver of the car may face multiple charges pending the results of the investigation. For many motorcyclists, spring is a favorite time…

Critical Injuries Result from Motorcycle Accident

As the weather begins to warm up, drivers must watch for more motorcycles while on the road. It can be easy for a motorcyclist to lose control or crash into something else while trying to avoid being hit by other, larger vehicles on the road. A motorcycle accident in Georgia occurred under similar circumstances. A 42-year-old motorcyclist is currently in critical condition at Navicent Health in Macon after an accident on Gray Highway recently. The accident occurred when a car pulling onto the highway from a parking lot crossed over the lanes and into the victim's path. He attempted to swerve out of the car's way but crashed into the rear of the vehicle in the process. When authorities arrived, they had the motorcyclist transported to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the car only carried a CP license with her and has been cited for driving without a licensed driver…

Man killed in motorcycle accident in Columbia County

For experienced motorists in Georgia and other states, many traffic laws are second nature. Unfortunately, some people have made a bad habit of ignoring certain laws or overlooking them in certain situations. Failure to follow these laws can have terrible results, especially if a motorcycle is involved. It isn't unusual for a motorcycle accident to result in injuries or death because the riders have significantly less protection than a driver in a car. Recently, a 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed in an accident involving his motorcycle and an SUV. His motorcycle, traveling south, was struck by the SUV, traveling north, when the SUV driver attempted to make a left-hand turn. The collision caused the motorcyclist to be thrown from his bike. When authorities arrived, they had the motorcyclist transported to Doctors Hospital. He was pronounced dead on the evening of Dec. 21. The woman driving the SUV was charged with failure to yield…

One Dead in Motorcycle Accident

Riding a motorcycle can be thrilling, and at this time of year, many riders in Georgia may be taking their bikes out as often as they can before the weather gets too cold. Both motorcycle riders and people driving other vehicles must be constantly aware of who and what is around them as they travel. Motorcyclists, especially, run the risk of sustaining a severe injury whenever they go out on their bikes because there is nothing between the driver and the road when a motorcycle accident occurs. The risk of serious injury or death can increase when there are other, larger vehicles involved in the accident as well. On the evening of Friday, Nov. 17 Georgia State Patrol officers responded to an accident involving a truck and a motorcycle in Coffee County. The accident occurred when a motorcycle traveling northbound on Hwy 221 crashed into the side of a pickup truck.  The truck…

Motorcycle Accident Results in Critical Injuries

Motorcycles are a common sight on roadways in Georgia and across America, and they come in a wide variety of sizes and styles. Those driving larger vehicles have a responsibility to keep a close eye out for them. A motorcycle accident involving other vehicles often results in severe injuries, or worse, for the motorcyclist due to the limited means of protection available to bikers. On the morning of Nov. 4, an accident occurred on Hwy. 34 between a motorcycle and a pickup truck. The motorcyclist was heading east when the truck, which had been stopped at the intersection, pulled onto the highway. Because the motorcyclist did not have time to slow down or dodge the truck, he crashed into the driver's side door of the pickup. The biker suffered severe injuries as a result of the crash. He was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center. Fortunately, there were no other reported injuries. Authorities are…

An Older Motorcyclist is at Risk for More Serious Injuries

A motorcyclist is more vulnerable to injuries sustained in a traffic accident than someone who is in an enclosed vehicle. Furthermore, the risk of injury increases for riders who are over the age of 60. To complicate matters, the driver's insurance company may take the position that the motorcyclist is responsible for the accident, when, in fact, the fault often lies with the motorist. All about growing older Many changes take place in your body as you age. For example, bones become more brittle and are more prone to fractures. Eyesight becomes a bit more blurry, and even with glasses, your vision will likely not be as sharp as it once was. Among the major physiological changes is a redistribution of visceral fat and a reduction in the elasticity of the chest wall. As you age, you will notice that your balance has changed and that your reaction time is slower.…

Man and Woman Injured in a Motorcycle Accident in Georgia

Georgia motorcyclists have the advantage of many months of warm weather to enjoy riding their bikes. Unfortunately, they also may suffer a disadvantage when they collide with another vehicle. Because a bike rider has little to protect themselves when a motorcycle accident occurs, riders can be seriously injured. Depending on the severity of injuries, lives can be changed forever. Recently, a man and woman riding a motorcycle suffered injuries after the operator attempted to avoid a collision with a car. The 47-year-old man was riding with his female passenger southbound on the road when a car pulled out in front of him. In an attempt to avoid the collision, he apparently slammed on his brakes. The quick reaction resulted in him losing control of his motorcycle. He suffered a serious head injury and was taken to a specialized facility for care. His passenger suffered injuries as well, but they are both…

Why It’s So Important for First-Time Riders to Pick the Right Motorcycle

While heading to the local dealership to purchase a new car, truck, or sport utility vehicle is always exciting, it often pales in comparison to the feeling that comes from shopping for a new motorcycle. That's because would-be purchasers know just how freeing and exhilarating it will ultimately be to take their new purchase out on the open road. As thrilling as walking the showroom floor can be, those who are buying a motorcycle for the first time will want to keep some important safety points in mind as they search for the perfect model. Power Thanks to everything from internet ads to movies, many novice riders automatically assume that bigger is better when it comes to engines. However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration instructs "buy the power you need, but only as much as you can handle safely." Indeed, bikes with more horsepower naturally have bigger engines and, as such,…
