Six Injured in Drunk Driving Accident

For many people throughout the country, the weekend is a time to let loose and relax. Others, however, may have a tendency to over-indulge with alcohol during the weekends, which may have dangerous results if they then choose to drive. Georgia authorities responded to reports of a drunk driving accident involving two cars, and, surprisingly, a house. Sometime after midnight on July 7, an SUV ran a stop sign and collided with another vehicle carrying five passengers. The SUV then ran over a telephone pole and proceeded to drive through several people's front yards. After leaving the scene of the first crash, the inebriated driver also crashed into a second vehicle and a house before coming to a stop. After arresting the individual, Georgia State Patrol officers revealed that the driver's initial blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit. A total of six people were sent to the hospital with injuries, including the five…

New Law Attempts to Reduce Accidents Caused by Distracted Driving

Drivers across Georgia have likely heard about the new Hands-Free Georgia Act, which goes into effect beginning July first. Other states have implemented similar laws and have seen a 16 percent drop in fatal accidents caused by distracted driving. It is hoped that this new law will have a similar effect in Georgia. This new law prohibits the use of cell phones and other mobile devices while on a roadway. In addition to forbidding people from texting while driving, this law states that drivers are not allowed to be holding their phone in their hands or touching their phone with any other part of their body while driving. It also prohibits all cell phone usage for teenage drivers and forbids all drivers from recording video, with the exception of continuously running dashboard cameras, or watching videos not related to navigation. However, there are some exceptions to this new law. Drivers are…

Truck Accident Involving Multiple Tractor-Trailers Kills One

Driving among multiple tractor-trailers can be daunting for many drivers. If a truck driver makes even a small mistake, the results could be disastrous. Georgia State Patrol responded to a truck accident last week involving multiple tractor-trailers and a much smaller passenger vehicle. The crash resulted in several injuries as well as the death of one of the drivers. The crash occurred on June 20 on Interstate 285 northbound and involved four semi-trucks in addition to one car. One of the tractor-trailers struck three other large tractor-trailers as well as the rear of the small car. This chain reaction collision also forced the car to be pushed underneath one of the semi-trucks. This crash caused the two far-right lanes and an exit ramp to be blocked for approximately six hours. Five people were injured in the crash and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the driver of the car…

Georgia Power Accused of Negligence in Wrongful Death Suit

The treatments for cancer or other serious illnesses can be harsh on a patient's body and can be difficult to recover from. Sometimes, these treatments can even cause permanent damage. Depending on the illness and the treatment, patients may be permanently reliant on things like oxygen tanks or other healthcare equipment. When this equipment is compromised, the results may be deadly, as was the case for a Georgia woman whose power was turned off despite her efforts and the efforts of her family and her doctors to keep the power on. After her death, a wrongful death suit was filed against Georgia Power, claiming negligence. A woman was recovering from cancer treatment and required oxygen in her home when the power was cut off. Paramedics were dispatched to her home and confirmed that she had suffered acute respiratory failure as well as low oxygen in her blood and tissue. She was…

Collisions with Cars are the Major Cause of Cyclist Injuries

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration tracks the sources of injuries to bicycle riders, as well as the causes for cyclist fatalities. By far, being hit by a car is the major cause of cyclist injuries or death. The statistics show a slight decline in recent years, but exposure data is far from complete. Unbalanced records According to the NHTSA, 818 people died in bicycle-vehicle accidents in 2015, a 12.2 percent increase from 2014. On the other hand, the number of bicyclists injured went down from 50,000 in 2014 to 45,000 in 2015. This figure is based on actual reports. However, it might be considered an estimate because certain factors are not known. For example, no one knows how far a cyclist travels on a particular outing or how long he or she is exposed to car and truck traffic. Some collisions are not reported. The risk of bike accidents…

Motorcycle Accident Results in the Death of the Rider

Summer is here, and motorcyclists across the country are taking full advantage of the warm, sunny weather. The increasing number of motorcycles means that the drivers of other vehicles need to be more aware of their surroundings. A motorcycle, even a large one, can more easily hide in a driver's blind spot or be overlooked by other drivers. Last week, Georgia authorities responded to a motorcycle accident between a motorcycle and another vehicle that resulted in the death of the motorcyclist. Paramedics and other first responders were dispatched just before 6:30 a.m. on June 8 in response to an accident. When they arrived, the first responders saw that both vehicles involved in the wreck had come to a stop on the eastbound side of the intersection. The motorcyclist was found lying on the side of the road near the crash site and had suffered severe injuries. Authorities determined that the southbound…

Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident Involving Two Vehicles

Drivers across the country are involved in accidents every day, and many of these accidents may involve young drivers. These young people may be more likely to be involved in an accident due to their inexperience. It can be easy for an inexperienced driver to misjudge the distance between vehicles or to overlook smaller vehicles like motorcycles. However, these mistakes can sometimes lead to a deadly car or motorcycle accident, as was the case in a recent Georgia crash. This accident occurred just before 11 a.m. on May 27. When authorities arrived, they determined that the crash was caused when the car was attempting to turn left onto an intersecting street from the southbound side of the road. As she attempted to make the left turn, the driver's car pulled into the path of a northbound motorcycle. The motorcyclist was severely injured in the crash and was transported to a local hospital.…

Highway Car Accident Results in 1 Death and 2 Injuries

Areas where vehicles enter and exit roadways can be incredibly dangerous if drivers are not careful and aware of their surroundings. Major roadways, like highways and interstates, may be especially dangerous for drivers due to a large number of other vehicles or the higher speeds at which they are traveling. A car accident occurred recently in Georgia that resulted in multiple injuries and the death of one individual. The accident involved two vehicles, a pickup truck traveling southbound and a sedan entering the highway. As the sedan pulled onto the highway, it was struck by the southbound truck. When authorities arrived, they discovered that both of the passengers in the sedan and the driver of the truck were seriously injured. Both drivers were transported by EMA to a nearby hospital with severe injuries. The driver of the truck was admitted in critical condition, and the driver of the sedan was admitted in…

1 Killed, 1 Injured in Car Accident

Head-on collisions are terrifying to imagine, and even more so to be involved in. Not surprisingly, these crashes often result in serious injuries or death. Georgia authorities are currently investigating the underlying cause of one such car accident. The accident involved two vehicles, a northbound car, and a southbound pickup truck. As she approached a curve in the road, the northbound driver crossed over the center line into the southbound lane, where she crashed into the oncoming truck. According to authorities, both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and the airbags functioned properly. They have also stated that they do not think that the crash was alcohol-related. Unfortunately, both drivers suffered serious injuries. The northbound driver suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. Fortunately, the pickup driver survived, though he also suffered serious injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital in…

Hydroplaning Vehicle Causes Car Accident

Georgia drivers are no strangers to pop-up storms and slippery roads, and most drivers take care to drive slowly when the roads are hazardous. However, sometimes drivers are not as careful as they should be and accidents can occur. Recently a driver hydroplaned on a slippery road and collided with a school bus. This car accident resulted in several injuries and the death of one child. The accident was a head-on collision between a small vehicle and a school bus carrying 19 students, in addition to the bus driver. It occurred on the morning of May 16. While traveling northbound, the car hit a puddle of standing water on the road and hydroplaned. This caused the driver to cross over the center line where it struck the southbound bus. Thankfully, none of the bus passengers were seriously injured. Many, however, did suffer other injuries, including the bus driver. The driver and one of the…
