Wrongful Death: Georgia Man Faces Criminal Charges in Train Crash

Drivers in Georgia likely come across a variety of different flashing lights, warning signs, and other precautions to protect their safety. Unfortunately, some people may choose to ignore these signs or fail to see them, potentially placing their own lives at risk as well as the lives of their passengers or others in the area. In fact, a recent fatal accident in Georgia -- which could ultimately result in a wrongful death lawsuit -- appears to illustrate the potential dangers of failing to obey flashing lights. The incident happened just before 7 a.m. on a day in early August. According to reports, a 45-year-old man drove a van onto train tracks. The man allegedly ignored several warnings that a train was coming. Reports indicate that the intersection was equipped with several safety tools, including crossbucks, lights, gates, and bells. Video of the incident reportedly shows the man leaving the van just…

Car Wrecks Caused by Seniors in Georgia 5th Highest in US

Though a driver of any age can be involved in a car crash, some drivers may have more risk factors than others. A recent study claims that, here in Georgia, senior citizens have a higher risk of being in car wrecks than in most of the rest of the nation, ranking fifth on the list. There are several reasons why this may be the case. Older people's cognitive and physical abilities can decline due to age, making it more difficult for them to safely operate a vehicle. Experts say that families should watch for certain behaviors that may indicate that an elderly loved one should stop driving. If a loved one has increased difficulty hearing or seeing, cannot follow a conversation, or has difficulty with motor skills, it may be best for everyone to convince the individual to stop driving. Also, if families notice that the older person's vehicle has…

Drunk Driving Suspected in Fatal Georgia Crash

The dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol are well-publicized. Despite the efforts made by government and advocacy groups, there are people in Georgia and across the country who still get behind the wheel of a vehicle while under the influence. In fact, a woman is now accused of drunk driving following a motor vehicle accident that resulted in the death of a bicyclist. The incident happened during the morning hours of a day in mid-July. According to reports, a 34-year-old woman was southbound when her vehicle collided with a bicycle. The 29-year-old male cyclist died upon impact. Police say that the driver involved was under the influence at the time of the accident. As a result, she is charged with DUI, driving while unlicensed, and homicide by vehicle. Law enforcement officials are still investigating the accident. She was denied bond at a hearing that was held in…

Two Dead in Drunk Driving Accident

The pain from losing a loved one because of a driver who is under the influence lasts a lifetime. Having to learn to live without someone because of a drunk driving accident can be difficult in so many ways, including the loss of economic provision and the loss of companionship. Two people were killed in a drunk driving accident, and Georgia police have arrested the man they say caused the fatalities. Initial investigations by police reveal a 41-year-old man driving a Chevrolet SUV ran a red light and crashed into a Toyota SUV going through the intersection. The Chevrolet bounced off the Toyota, left the road and ran into a tree before stopping. One passenger in the vehicle died upon impact, and another died once he arrived at a nearby hospital. Injuries to the occupants of the Toyota were not serious, and the driver of the Chevrolet was released from the…

Georgia Teen Seriously Injured in Car Accident; Arrest Made

On behalf of Dozier Law Firm, LLC posted in Car Accidents on Thursday, July 25, 2019. Most people are aware of there is a potential chance of being involved in an accident while driving. Those involved in an accident are required to remain at the scene. Unfortunately, law enforcement officials in Georgia say that a driver recently fled the scene of a car accident that injured a pedestrian. Rescue workers responded to the scene during the early morning hours of a day in July. According to reports, a 19-year-old was discovered lying in the road. He was transported to the hospital and listed in serious condition. Police believe that the teen was struck by a vehicle, and the driver of that vehicle left. However, an investigator allegedly discovered the identity of the driver and located the vehicle believed to have been involved in the days following the accident. The driver, also a 19-year-old male, is charged…

Police Detective at Fault for Car Accident

Using drugs and driving simply don't mix. Law enforcement deals with DUI car accidents on a seemingly daily basis. One Georgia police detective may have ignored the lessons he may have learned on the job, as he was recently arrested for DUI following a car accident. The detective was off-duty and in his personal vehicle on a weekend afternoon when his car went off the road and onto a sidewalk. A pedestrian was hit but not critically injured. The detective stayed on the scene until police and emergency responders arrived. The injured victim was taken to a local hospital after complaining of leg pain. Responding officers arrested the detective after giving him a field sobriety test. He was cited with reckless driving in addition to the DUI charge and will be on administrative leave until an investigation has concluded. He has been in his current position for two years with no other…

Drunk Driving Accident Kills Man on I-95

Driving while under the influence is simply not smart. The chances of injuring or killing someone are considerably higher when a driver does not have a clear head while behind the wheel. While the penalties for drunk driving vary depending on the damage done, there are others who are forever separated from a loved one or who may end up with astronomical medical bills from treatment for an injury that should have never happened. Drunk driving is said to be the reason a man was killed in an early morning accident on a Georgia interstate. The report from a Georgia State Patrol trooper stated the 29-year-old driver of a pickup truck was headed north on I-95 and was at the point of a bridge over a creek when he ran into the back of a Mack dump truck. The collision caused the dump truck to veer toward the guardrails, and when…

Car Accident Takes Lives of 2 Children

There are so many things that can be a distraction to drivers. Paying attention to cellphones, passengers or even one's own thoughts can distract a driver enough to cause an avoidable car accident. Police in a Georgia county is charging a woman for her part in the deaths of two children after they say she caused a fatal car accident. Police say the late-night accident happened when the driver of a northbound SUV crossed over to the southbound lane and hit a smaller SUV head-on. The impact pushed the smaller SUV into a sedan. A 14-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy in the smaller SUV were pronounced dead after rescue personnel transported the three drivers and their passengers to a nearby hospital. All others are expected to recover, though further details regarding their injuries were not reported. Once the 28-year-old driver of the larger SUV is released from medical treatment, police…

Drunk Driving Suspected in Deadly Crash

Two women from out of state were tragically killed in McIntosh County after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95, according to police. Georgia State Patrol Specialized Reconstruction Team Investigators have confirmed the deaths of the two women. Police believe drunk driving may have played a role in the accident and report that charges are pending against one driver involved. According to GSP troopers, around 2:30 a.m. on the morning of June 13, a 20-year-old man apparently rear-ended another car in the southbound lanes, disabling the second vehicle. Its four occupants, a woman and her son and daughter, along with the son's spouse, exited the vehicle to seek shelter on the side of the road. What followed was best described as a pileup as three more cars became involved in the crash. It is not clear at what point the two women were struck by one of these vehicles, or even…

Man’s Life Lost in Drunk Driving Accident

The public often hears about a driver who had been drinking and caused an accident. However, a Georgia news outlet recently released a story about a drunk driving accident that involved two drivers who had been drinking. The drunk driving accident resulted in the death of a 62-year-old man. The report stated a 28 year-old-woman was driving after drinking and neglected to stop at a stop sign. She hit a car that was proceeding through the intersection. The force of the collision caused both cars to overturn and killed the passenger in the second car. Both drivers and the passenger in the first car were taken to a nearby hospital, treated for minor injuries and released. Police discovered not only had the driver of the first car been drinking but the driver of the second car had, as well. The woman was charged with DUI, running a stop sign and homicide…
