Those who choose to drink alcohol and then drive are a danger to themselves and others. So many families are left to pick up the pieces after a loved one is seriously hurt or killed as a result of drunk driving. One Georgia family is grieving after the loss of a 2-year-old boy in a drunk driving accident.
At approximately 11 p.m., an SUV was stopped at an intersection and waiting for a green light when a pickup truck hit the back end of the vehicle. The little boy, who had been strapped in his car seat in the back seat of the SUV, died after being rushed to an area hospital. His father had been in the driver’s seat and was treated for numerous broken bones. A report on the incident only stated his mother, who had been riding in the front passenger seat, was close to giving birth to a second child, but there was no mention of her condition or that of the baby.
The driver of the truck says he was injured but he declined being treated by a medical professional. Police believe he was not only inebriated at the time of the incident but that he was distracted, as well. There were 15 charges issued against him and he was remanded to the county jail. At the time of the report, bail had been denied and his incarceration continued.
Parents who were overjoyed to have an addition to their family are now grieving for the tragic loss of one. They are now being faced with unexpected bills as well as those from a funeral and burial after the drunk driving accident. Filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the truck driver could bring some financial relief. As the laws of Georgia can be complicated, these types of legal proceedings are best handled by an experienced personal injury attorney.
