The accident occurred Jan. 31 in Fort Oglethorpe, near Georgia’s northern border, at an intersection on U.S. Highway 27. According to the report, the motorcyclist was in the northbound lane and a pickup truck, driven by a 74-year-old man, was in the southbound lane. The accident occurred when the truck’s driver attempted a left-hand turn, causing the two vehicles to collide.
Local law enforcement officials were still unsure of who was at fault in the accident when the report was written. They were continuing to investigate in hopes of determining whether one driver failed to yield to the other. They did know, however, that speed was not a factor in the accident.
Should the officials determine the truck driver acted negligently when he attempted his left-hand turn, the family members of the deceased victim of the motorcycle accident may decide to pursue wrongful death compensation. In order for a Georgia court to award compensation, proof of negligence must be presented. Most who decide to pursue this type of legal action seek the assistance of experienced personal injury attorneys who can help gather information and build cases to support families’ wrongful death claims.
