The report from a Georgia State Patrol trooper stated the 29-year-old driver of a pickup truck was headed north on I-95 and was at the point of a bridge over a creek when he ran into the back of a Mack dump truck. The collision caused the dump truck to veer toward the guardrails, and when the driver swerved to avoid them, the truck turned over. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup also swerved toward the guardrail but was able to correct himself after guiding his truck back onto the interstate and crossing the two northbound lanes before coming to a stop. Troopers responding to the scene had reason to believe he had been drinking, but he would not submit to any type of testing. He was eventually required to give a blood sample as a result of a search warrant. At the time of the report, he was still in the county jail with no bond having been set. The charges against him include vehicular homicide and DUI.
