A video from a business just off the interstate showed a semi-truck traveling northbound along I-75, slowing down for an accident several miles ahead. The pickup truck was behind the semi and also began to slow. A second semi came up behind the pickup truck, but the driver never engaged the brakes. The rig slammed into the pickup truck and pushed it into the back of the first semi. The pickup truck burst into flames, killing the driver and all three passengers.
The driver of the first semi was not hurt but the driver who caused the accident was sent to a hospital nearly 30 miles away, then was treated and released. Upon his release, he was arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle and driving too fast for conditions. At the time of a report on the accident, the driver was still in the county jail as against a bond of $10,000.
Inattentiveness to the road while driving is not acceptable, with roads as busy as they are these days. As this horrific semi-truck accident shows, the lives of many people are adversely affected when complacency and negligence dictate the actions of some drivers. Families in Georgia who have suffered a similar loss can seek counsel from an attorney with experience in successfully handling wrongful death lawsuits.
