A recent accident in Covington made headlines after an alleged intoxicated driver crashed and caused a five-car pileup. The accident occurred during the morning hours at the intersection of Highways 278 and 142. According to witnesses, the alleged intoxicated driver approached the intersection at a high rate of speed and struck the rear of a vehicle that was sitting at the intersection traffic light.
Reports say the collision set off a chain-reaction crash that involved four other vehicles that were stopped at the light. A driver in one of the vehicles suffered injuries and had to be extracted from her vehicle, witnesses say. The injured driver was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment. Police say that the driver who allegedly caused the accident fled the scene on foot. Police later arrested the man and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, reckless driving, and DUI, among other charges.
This accident is evidence of the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol. Those in Georgia who suffer injury or the loss of a loved one in a drunk driving accident can take legal action. A successful lawsuit could result in vital compensation to help with any financial losses caused by the accident.
